Forest Deptt to dig 847 water saucers in jungles across State

As the Weather Department has forecast heat wave and high temperature in Madhya Pradesh in April, May and June, the State Forest Department has started working for the drinking water availability in jungle. High temperature empties the water bodies even in thickets forest of State. Taking serious note of water crisis in wild, the Forest Department has come into action to quench the thirst if wildlife by digging saucer pits in many areas and filling them timely. MP Forest Department has started campaign to dig 847 water saucer in forest areas across State.

Every year many incidents get reported from villages that big cats enter to the residential area in search of water during summer. This situation create chances of man-animal conflict. In many cases, tigers also fight for the killing in their territory and it results into casualty or injury. Since year 2015, 189 tigers have died in State due to territorial fight. According to census 2018 there are highest 526 tigers in State.

Forest officials claimed that population of tigers and leopards increased in state at fast pace. In order to keep them engaged in their own territory and avoid man-animal conflict or territorial fight of tigers, forest department has decided to dig water saucers that would help them at large. Officials said that every year they check the water requirement based on local level survey and then clean the old saucer and dig new one as per need.

This year forest department has made a different plan. As this year rainfall was very good during monsoon, natural water bodies are in good condition. Forest team has identified the spots where population of tigers are higher. After assessing the population of tigers, spots and number of water bodies, water saucer will be dug.
