NIT to tie up with NMC for jointly developing Gokulpeth market

Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) is partnering with Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) for joint development of Gokulpeth market. A building owned by NIT on West High Court road is proposed to be demolished while civic body owns the adjoining land on which vegetable market is based. The two plots are likely to be amalgamated for full-fledged leveraging of additional FSI for a bigger and swankier market place that would provide one stop solution for citizens in West Nagpur.
A meeting of Board of Directors of NIT was held on Tuesday wherein an outlay of Rs 1,213.96 crore was finalised for the financial year 2023-24. Manoj Kumar Suryavanshi, Chairman, NIT, presided. Radhakrishnan B, Municipal Commissioner & Administrator NMC, Dr Vipin Itankar, District Collector, both ex-officio Members, Mohan Mate and Sandip Itkelwar, both Trustees, along with Supriya Thool, Joint Director, Town Planning, were present at the meeting. As per the details released by NIT, the Capital surplus in the budget is of Rs 679.13 crore, while Revenue surplus is of Rs 55.70 crore. The Board decided to allocate Rs 1,210.75 crore for development works. An outlay of Rs 77.35 crore is approved for development of roads, construction of compound wall, development of sports ground, cement concrete roads.
The other new works that are proposed for the next financial year include a new market development, exclusively for vegetables, in North Nagpur where several new colonies have come up. The market would streamline supply of vegetable to the vast population as new colonies have emerged on the fringes of the city. A provision of Rs 20 crore is earmarked for development of facilities in sports ground. The meeting was informed by Chairman that Rs 100 crore DPR for upgradation of sports ground is received by NIT and in first phase, the small allocation is made. Similarly, a Sports Park is also proposed by NIT. For development of sports stadium at Harpur, Rs 10 crore is allocated. Another new development in South Nagpur is proposal for a stadium for Divyang.
At Ambazari, a leisure park is proposed to be developed by NIT. For this project, a sum of Rs five crore is earmarked. Another project identified for Ambazari is Light and Sound show. Also, five e-library are going to be developed along with an exhibition hall. A swimming pool is on cards at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Sports Park, Ahuja Nagar, North Nagpur. NIT is also going to start construction of market at Kalamna in Ashirvad Nagar. For this, a provision of Rs 10 crore is made in the budget. Also, Rs 5.30 crore is earmarked in the budget for ongoing work at Sant Jagnade Maharaj Smarak at Nandanvan Square.
