Nagpur-based Economic Explosives Limited (EEL), a 100 per cent subsidiary of Solar Industries India Limited, on Saturday added another feather to its cap by delivering first consignment of a fully indigenous fuze for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) rockets to Indian Navy. With this, Solar Industries became the first private players in the country to make the ammunition called YDB-60 for ASW Rocket RGB-60 used from major warships. The senior officials of the Indian Navy received the first consignment. Satyanarayan Nuwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Solar Industries, handed over the consignment to Vice Admiral S N Ghormade, Vice Chief of Naval Staff (VCNS).
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Admiral S N Ghormade said, “The growing participation of private industries in manufacture of armament and ammunition is appreciable and this is providing a major boost in the ‘Aatma Nirbharta’ of armed forces. Development and manufacture of such a fuze by private industry for the first time, using simulated dynamic trial facilities is a major achievement for the country.”
It is for the first time that the Indian Navy has asked any India private player to supply underwater ammunition fuze.
All technical assistance to the manufacturer towards creating a vibrant ecosystem for manufacture of ammunition and fuze in India in pursuit of ‘Aatma Nirbharta’ has been provided by the Directorate General of Naval Armament Inspection (DGNAI) in pursuance of order placed
by Director General of Naval Armament (DGONA) of Indian Navy. Rear Admiral Sanjay Misra (Retd), Senior Vice President, Solar Industries India Limited, said the major war vessels of the Indian Navy are outfitted with ASW Rocket RGB-60 for destroying enemy submarines. “It is a highly technical and complex product which has to explode underwater at different depths as set to destroy target submarine. We are proud to have fulfilled the standards set by the India Navy,” he said.
