KASHIT Nagrale and Ekta Ingle emerged men’s and women’s singles champions respectively in the MSLTA State Championships - Nagpur Zone Men’s Open & Women’s Open Tennis Tournament that concluded at the MSLTA Tennis Academy in Ramnagar on Sunday. It was a Sunday that will be cherished by many as seeded players advanced to the semi-finals and fought hard, displaying their best shots, competing with each other for every point.
The upset was caused by Nagrale in the men’s singles semi-final. Nagrale beat his elder opponent Soham Jane in a tight tie-breaker that went down to the wire. In the final, Nagrale beat Anand Marathe 6-1 in a one-sided match that took everyone by surprise. In the men’s doubles semi-final, favourites Tanmay and Soham easily beat Om Ladle and Omkar Sathe 6-0 while Anand Marathe and Om Dhaka beat Achintya Verma and Tejal Pal 6-2. In a match between equals, Anand and Om beat Tanmay and Soham 6-2 in the doubles final.
In the women’s open, the combative Ingle was far superior to her opponents and was the winner while Surmayee Sathe ended as the runner-up. Prize distribution was done by Vice-President Ashok Bhiwapurkar and Joint Secretary Vikram Naidu of NDHTA. Vishal Landge, Tournament Supervisor, conducted the proceedings.

Men’s singles semi-finals: Anand Marathe beat Achintya Verma 6-2; Kashit Nagrale beat Soham Jane 6-5 (7-5). Men’s doubles semi-finals: Tanmay Siriah and Soham Jane beat Om Ladole and Omkar Sathe 6-0; Anand Marathe and Om Dhok beat Achintya Verma and Tejal Pal 6-2. Men’s singles final: Kashit Nagrale beat Anand Marathe 6-1. Men’s doubles final: Anand Marathe and Om Dhok beat Soham Jane and Tanmay Siriah 6-2. Women’s open: Ekta Ingle bt Surmayee Sathe.
