Loco pilot killed, 4 injured as goods trains collide at Singhpur Stn

 

 

 

A railway employee was killed and four other personnel were injured in a major rail accident of freight trains at Singhpur Railway Station of Shahdol district under SECR, Bilaspur zone, at around 7 am on Wednesday. Four engines caught fire and four wagons were derailed. A goods train was halted at Singhpur at Singhpur Railway Station. Another goods train coming from Katni on the same track overshoot the red signal and hit a stationary goods train. At the same time another goods train on the other track was passing by and wagons of both the goods train fell on the goods train.

Engine of goods train caught fire and loco pilot of the train which hit the stationary train, died on-the-spot while four others including Assistant Loco Pilot were rushed to medical college at Shahdol.

Relief and rescue operation was started with the help of local administration. Senior officers of SECR, Bilaspur zone rushed to the spot and did not reveal any reason behind the accident and informed that after investigation details would be known. After this accident, 10 trains have been cancelled and rail traffic on Katni-Bilaspur rail route has been halted completely. All the trains coming from direction of Katni and from Bilaspur have been halted. Bilaspur-Indore Express train has been cancelled. Chhattisgarh Sampark Kranti Express train has been stopped at Naurazabad Railway Station. Passengers of Sampark Kranti Express, Narmada Express were taken to Anuppur junction through buses. From there through special train they would be sent to their destination. Railway team from Katni, Manendragarh, Bilaspur rushed to the spot.Wagons and engine of the accident hit train are lying on the track hence trains which pass from this route have been cancelled. They are hopeful of restoring traffic soon when the engine, wagons would be removed. As per information, coal loaded goods train was standing at Singhpur Station and signal was red. At the same time coal loaded goods train coming from Katni came on the same track despite signal being red. Goods train loco pilot kept running the train and hence it collided with the other goods train.

Loco pilot Rajendra Prasad and Assistant Loco Pilot Rituraj Singh was in the engine of goods train which hit the stationary train. Hence engine of both the trains caught fire and loco pilot Rajendra Prasad died on-the-spot.

Condition of Rituraj Singh is very serious. It is said that Rajendra Prasad was on duty from last 15 hours continuously, he could not control the engine and despite red signal, he hit the goods train which was standing at the station. Detailed probe is being done into this accident.
