The hospitalisation rate due to COVID-19 remains low in the State capital despite a recent spurt in cases. Of the 120 active COVID-19 cases in Bhopal, only one patient with co-morbidities was hospitalised, the chief medical health officer (CMHO) Dr Prabhakar Tiwari said.
Dr Tiwari further said that hospitalisation remains low despite the rise in active cases. It has been observed that patients who are hospitalised are already in compromised with another co-morbid condition. Admission due to COVID-19 is insignificant. However, COVID-19 appropriate behaviour is advised for all. People with chronic bronchitis, cystic lung disease or those who are immuno compromised, continue to be at risk. The status of COVID-19 patients, who are hospitalised, is said to be stable. So far, Bhopal has reported one COVID-19 death this year. The patient, in her early 80s, was already hospitalised and undergoing treatment for cancer, when she was tested positive for the infection. On Monday, 13 new cases were diagnosed in Bhopal. As many as 15 people recovered from the infection.
There are 364 active cases in Madhya Pradesh, 120 of them are in Bhopal. Health officials when contacted, did not comment on vaccine availability. The State has run out of COVID-19 vaccines for over a month. Private hospitals are not inclined to offer paid vaccination for COVID-19. Health Department is marking world immunisation week, which began on Monday. It is focused on inoculation of vaccine for preventable diseases. Around 75% of eligible children in the state are estimated to be not vaccinated against COVID-19.
