Tragedy struck a family on the Nagpur-Jabalpur National Highway, on Saturday, when a trailer hit a motorcycle resulting in death of three persons. A 5-year-old child sustained injuries in the mishap. The incident occurred at around 10.30 am in Amdi village near Mansar. The deceased have been identified as Nikki Hargovind Bawne (35), his mother Bagwantabai Hargovind Bawne (60), and his daughter Ishani (8). All were residents of Pithesur Colony in Godhani, Nagpur. According to Ramtek Police, Nikki was riding his motorcycle with his family towards Seoni in Madhya Pradesh. As they reached near Amdi village, a trailer coming from Nagpur at a high speed hit their motorcycle, due to which they all fell on the road. The impact was so severe that Nikki, Bagwantabai and Ishani died on the spot while a 5-year-old child, Yug, sustained serious injuries.

 

He was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) in Nagpur for treatment. Upon receiving the news of the accident, Police Inspector Hriday Narayan Yadav of Ramtek Police Station, along with his team, reached the spot. The cops sent the bodies to the sub-district hospital in Ramtek, for post-mortem. The trailer driver, identified as Shivam Kumar Kushwaha, was arrested by the police after a chase. Ramtek Police have registered a case against Shivam Kumar under Sections 279, 304(A) of the Indian Penal Code, read with Sections 134, 177, 184 of

Motor Vehicle Act.

 

The incident led to a traffic-jam for about 1.30 hours, with hundreds of angry citizens from Amdi village blocking vehicular traffic coming from both sides. They complained that accidents happen frequently at this location, resulting in loss of many lives, but the police administration has failed to take any steps to prevent such incidents. The officials from the police administration and revenue department pacified the angry mob and assured of taking appropriate action after which they called off the chakka-jam agitation.
