IN A bizarre incident, a young man ended his life after going live on social media for almost 40 minutes and by hanging from the ceiling fan at his house in the New Kamptee area in the small hours of Tuesday. A resident of Kumbhare Colony, Kamptee, Krutank Siddharth Dongre (27) made his suicide live on the Facebook account of his wife Ruperi around 1.30 am. As the live suicide video went viral on Facebook, family members and relatives of the deceased were shocked and rushed to the bedroom room where Krutank was hanging from the ceiling fan.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Krutank was allegedly an alcoholic. A jobless Krutank often used to quarrel with his wife in an inebriated condition. Ruperi, who studied at J M Patel College, Bhandara, tied the nuptial knot with Krutank in March 2019. Following a tiff with her husband over his drinking habits, Ruperi allegedly left him and was staying with her parents. On Monday, Krutank’s mother was out of station. His father, brother and sister were at their Nagsen Nagar house. Krutank consumed liquor on Monday night. Around 12.30 am on Tuesday, he opened Ruperi’s Facebook page. After going live, he wore a new ‘kurta pajama’ and put a ‘tilak’ on his forehead. He then came close to the cellphone camera and rubbed the ‘tilak’ from the forehead. He then climbed the table of a sewing machine, tied the noose of a piece of cloth around his neck and hanged himself to death.
As the news about the incident spread like a jungle fire in the area, his relatives, neighbours and friends gathered in front of his house. Staff from New Kamptee Police Station arrived at the spot and sent the body for autopsy after conducting the ‘panchnama.’ Police registered a case under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and started further investigation.
