There is a reason to smile for the people of Vidarbha region as the Maharashtra Cabinet on Wednesday decided to increase Post Graduate seats in Super Speciality Hospital (SSH). To increase the number of seats, SSH must have more number of teaching posts. Taking this into account, the Cabinet has decided to create 14 additional posts.
Government Medical Colleges are getting increased Post Graduate seats. Recently Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) received more PG seats in some of its departments. The National Medical Commission (NMC) team recently inspected 12 departments of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Urology in Super Speciality Hospital has received two MCh (Super Speciality Course) seats. Against the backdrop of this development, Dr Raj Gajbhiye, Dean, GMCH, told ‘The Hitavada’, “It is a welcoming step. It will not only bring quality change but students from poor background will get chance to study in Government colleges.
“We have superspeciality seats in Gastroenterology, Cardiology. We have applied for Neurosurgery, Neurology, Cardiovascular Thorasic Surgery (CVTS). Since the seats are increased in the ratio of number of teachers, probably Government has taken a decision to increase additional 14 posts. Fortunately in all departments we have been able to
create the required infrastructure.” Last month team of National Medical Commission (NMC) had conducted inspections of 12 departments. The departments whose inspections were held include Paediatrics, Preventive and Social Medicine (PSM), Pharmacology, ENT, Skin, Anaesthesia, Surgery, Radiotherapy, Gynaecology, Urology, Pulmonary Medicine and Ophthalmology.
