A habitual offender roaming in Bhopal’s Habibganj area with intention of committing burglary attacked a police constable with an iron rod on Thursday night. The constable sustained minor injuries. On Friday afternoon, the police presented the accused in Justice Sonam Verma’s Court. During the hearing, the judge asked the accused the reason for his arrest. He told judge that the police had beaten him in lock-up all the night. The police sought his remand from the judge. On this, the lawyer argued that he needed treatment, not remand. He should be sent to judicial custody or he should be admitted to the hospital. After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the court handed over the accused to the cops on police remand till April 10. According to the information, Pawan Kumar Chaure, a resident of Nehru Nagar Police Line, is a constable in Habibganj Police Station.

He told that from 10 pm on Thursday to 10 am on Friday, Charlie was on night duty with Constable Bhagwan Das in 1-1. During patrolling, reached number 5 near the pond at 1:40 pm. Here two persons were found standing near the bike. On seeing the police, he tried to run away. Tried to catch both. One of the miscreants ran away after freeing his hand, while the other started frolicking. He took out an iron rod (Tommy) kept in the bag and hit him on the head. This caused a head injury. He too has minor injuries.

Called Dial-100. During interrogation, the accused was identified as Vishal’s father Omprakash (29), resident of village Khaikheda police station Ahmedpur district Sehore. He had come with the intention of stealing along with his accomplice Javed. Two iron (Tommy) rods were kept in the bag to break the lock. The police have also seized his bike (MP04 ZD-2617). Javed is absconding. The police told the court that Vishal be given remand to arrest Javed. ASI Manoj Yadav of Habibganj Police Station told that Vishal is a vicious thief. More than two dozen cases are registered against him in different police stations of Bhopal. He has formed a gang to commit theft. He was earlier caught at Ashoka Garden police station. Then he had confessed to several incidents of theft during interrogation. After being released from jail, he indulges in crime.
