THE Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has suspended Dr Ashish Deshmukh from the primary membership of the party till further proceedings and final disposal of the matter. The charges levelled against him are of grave nature, the letter said. DAC has issued notice to Deshmukh and sought his reply within 3 days of the receipt of the notice.
The letter, duly signed by Prithviraj Chavan, Chairman, DAC, that was issued to Dr Ashish Deshmukh mentioned that the committee met in Mumbai on April 5. It discussed the public statements made by Deshmukh on various occasions.
Referring to his April 4 interview where-in he had made “some serious, anti-party comments and unsubstantiated allegations about the party leaders - Rahul Gandhi and Nana Patole,” the Committee sought his reply. It may be recalled that Ashish Deshmukh had supported the demand for apology by Rahul Gandhi to the OBC community for his ‘Modi’ remarks. Deshmukh continued to make scathing attack on MPCC President. He had also accused MPCC President of receiving money from present Maharashtra Chief Minister during an interview to a TV channel. After this interview, party’s Disciplinary Action Committee met at Mumbai on April 5. After discussing the public statements made by Deshmukh, DAC found that the charges against Deshmukh serious.
According to Congress leadership, Deshmukh was constantly criticising the Party leadership publicly. The DAC has sought reply from Deshmukh within three days of the receipt of the show cause notice as to why he should not be expelled from the primary membership of the Congress Party. The DAC has also asked Deshmukh not to make any public statement till the matter is disposed off.
