LADY Lawyers defeated Dark Angels to clinch the first ‘HCBA Premier Box-Cricket Tournament-2023’ the other day. In the final, Lady Lawyers beat Dark Angles by four wickets at Royal Cricket Association’s Mecosabagh ground. Dark Angles scored 52 runs which Lady Lawyers achieved in 4.3 overs losing six wickets. The High Court Bar Association Nagpur in its centenary year recently organised ‘HCBA Premier Box-Cricket Tournament-2023’ for the lady advocates of the High Court. In the history of hundred years of the High Court Bar Association Nagpur, the women’s box cricket tournament was organised for the first time under the guidance of Advocate Atul Pande, President, HCBA alongwith Advocate Amol Jaltare, Secretary, HCBA, Nagpur. Hon’ble Justice Vrushali V Joshi, Judge, Bombay High Court, Nagpur Bench inaugurated the tournament.
Advocate Gauri Venkatraman, former President HCBA was also prominently present on the occasion. Six teams participated in the tournament with great zeal and sportsman spirit. Each team played a two matches to qualify for the semi-finals. Senior Counsel Kumkum V Sirpurkar and Advocate Ketaki Joshi, Addl Government Pleader were the guests of the final match. Kumkum Sirpurkar encouraged all the lady advocates by metaphorically relating them to the famous character of Portia from the William Shakespeare’s ‘The Merchant of Venice.’ Advocate Atul Pande, President, HCBA, Nagpur, told that the women’s cricket was organised for the first time with an intention to bring together the lady advocates and imbibe in them a collective sentiment of strength. The final match was played between the team Lady Lawyers under captainship of Advocate Arpana Jha and the team Dark Angels led by Advocate Rupali Naik. The team of Lady Lawyers comprising Arpana Jha, Sampada Godbole, Akshaya Kshirsagar, Apurva Kolhe, Anoma Nitnaware and Himani Kavi emerged winners. The entire event was successfully managed and executed by Advocate Priyanka Arbat, Advocate Akshaya Kshirsagar, Advocate Apurva Kolhe, Advocate Bosco Anthony and Advocate Aquib Haque, executive members of the High Court Bar Association Nagpur. The tournament was largely attended by the members of HCBA and also encouraged the participants.
