Central Government and State Government is executing Jal Jeevan Mission to ensure water supply in each home in each village. In villages overhead high capacity water tanks are being constructed to arrange for supply of water through pipelines. Contractors who have been given contract for construction of overhead are not completing the work on time due to which villages are facing water crisis.

In village panchayat Mendki, from last 2 years villagers are facing acute shortage of water. The work of Nal Jal Yojana was not completed fully by the contractor hence villages are still travelling long distance to fetch water. It may be recalled that in the year 1998 Nal Jal Yojana was sanction in village panchayat Mendki. The then Sarpanch Asha Sheetal Prasad Bisen got overhead water tank constructed under the scheme. Then villagers were supplied water in their homes through pipelines but two years back it was decided that plastic pipeline would be laid instead of the present cement pipeline.

A contractor was given the contract from last two years, the contractor was doing the work of laying of plastic pipeline but still water supply has not been started due to which villages facing tough time. Village Mendki has 15 hand pumps and wells in the houses. The water of wells and hand pump has more flouride content hence it cannot be used for drinking purpose. From last two years since the work of new pipeline has started, water crisis has emerged. But water supply has not been started, tap are mere showpiece in the houses. One of the villager informed that only one hand pump in village is from where water can be fetch. The sock pit near handpump is full of filth, the water drawing out from the hand pump is also not good.

At times the water from this handpump emits smell. One of the villager Durga Chaudhary informed that in summer season they need more water for drinking and they leave all house works and in early morning hours they reach the well to fetch water. They have no option other than to take water from this well and handpump. Former Sarpanch Sachin Singh inform that villagers are facing acute water crisis and concerned officers are paying any attention.

The most surprising factor is that SDO, PHE Prakash Suryavanshi does not have information about the acute water crisis in Mendki village panchayat prevailing from last two years. Contractor Mahendra Meshram did not briefed him about the water shortage. He was informed by media about the water crisis. SDO Suryavanshi has informed that the work of laying of new pipeline is about to complete. Now submersible pump have been installed on the hand pump and overhead tank would be filled with two hand pumps then water supply from overhead tank would be done. Transformers has been installed for the submersible pump. SDO Suryavanshi directed contractor Mahendra Meshram to complete the remaining work in 2 days and start the water supply from the overhead tank. He has also directed for water supply in Pawari Tola, Lodhi Tola within 10 days.
