Couple shot at, robbed nearKolar River in Khaparkheda

 

 

 

A COUPLE, returning after having dinner from a restaurant, was attacked and robbed by three unknown persons near Kolar River in Khaparkheda police station area late Monday night. The attackers, armed with a gun, shot at the victims when they resisted and snatched their mobile phones and cash before fleeing on a twowheeler. According to the police, the incident occurred approximately at 10:15 pm. The couple, identified as Srishti Mahendra Kumar Bawane (24), a resident of Baba Farid Nagar in Nagpur, and her partner, Praveen Bonde, were returning home after dining at Fira restaurant in Dahegaon. Instead of taking the direct route on the highway, they opted to drive by the Kolar river route.They reached a secluded spot near Nateswar Dahan Ghat, where they parked their vehicle on the roadside and went for a walk.

When they returned to their two-wheeler, three unknown persons on a two-wheeler approached them. They threatened and attempted to frisk the couple. Fearing for their safety, Praveen and Srishti handed over their mobile phones and cash to them. However, in a brave attempt to resist after they got back on their two wheeler, Srishti grabbed hold of the one on the pillion seat. To get rid of her, another assailant pulled out a gun and aimed it at them. Amid the chaos, several shots were fired from the gun, and one of the bullets hit Praveen’s right leg. Praveen initially did not realise he had been shot. The attacker then struck Srishti on the head with the butt of the gun, injuring her. The three assailants then quickly escaped on their two-wheeler, leaving the injured couple behind.

Srishti and Praveen managed to reach Koradi Police Station on their two-wheeler, where they sought immediate medical assistance. They were subsequently admitted to Mayo Hospital for treatment, where the bullet lodged in Praveen's leg was successfully removed. The incident was reported to the Khaparkheda Police Station. Srishti filed a complaint, leading to the booking of the three unidentified accused under sections 397, 354, 354 (A), 354 (B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) read with Sections 3, 25 of the Indian Arms Act. Interestingly, the police are considering a potential connection between this incident and a similar robbery targeting a couple that occurred recently within the jurisdiction of the Koradi Police Station. The similarities in modus operandi have raised suspicions of the involvement of the same assailants in both cases.
