Three people were killed, five were critically injured and 20 were injured when a bus carrying villagers to the programme of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Umaria, overturned on Ghaghri overbridge of National Highway at Umaria, on Wednesday. The accident occurred five kms before the CM’s venue. Total 21 villagers were injured and one seriously injured has been referred to Jabalpur. Governor Mangubhai Patel, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reached the hospital at Umaria and met the injured and then he left for the function. ‘Hitgrahi Samlmelan’ under Ladli Bahna Yojana was organised at Bharola village of Umaria district on Wednesday.
Bus of Shubham Travels, Shahdol was going to Umaria after taking villagers from Bhatora village for the Hitgrahi Sammmelan. At Ghaghri overbridge, bus driver tried to save a bike driver and lost control over the steering. The bus overturned and villagers sitting in the bus started screaming for help. After the accident, traffic jam occurred and then police reached the spot and diverted the traffic. Police team reached the spot and rescued the trapped villagers. They sent the injured to district hospital in ambulance. After examination, doctors referred five injured to Jabalpur Medical College.
All senior officers reached the spot and monitored the rescue work. As a mark of respect for the deceased villagers, the Chief Minister did not accept the welcome ritual at the dias at Hitgrahi Sammelan at Bharola. He announced to give Rs 10 lakh compensation to family of three villagers who died in the accident. If any family member of the three deceased has the eligibility, then government job would be provided. The seriously injured victims would be provided Rs 50,000 cash and those with minor injuries would be provided aid of Rs 10,000.
