ACB nets woman RTO officer 3 months after her hubby met similar fate

 

 

 

Barely three months after her husband, a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) with Regional Transport Office (RTO), was trapped in the Anti Corruption Bureau’s (ACB) net, MVI Geeta Shejwal met the same fate, on Friday, while accepting Rs 400 as bribe. The ACB sleuths caught MVI Shejwal red-handed at Kandri check-post while she was accepting bribe from a truck driver. Interestingly, her husband, Abhijit Sudhir Manjre was also caught red-handed by the ACB sleuths on February 9 while he was accepting Rs 500 as bribe from a transporter at the same location.

According to an ACB official, MVI Shejwal had allegedly encouraged two persons, identified as Mukund Sonkusre and Rajesh Bhatkhore, to accept bribe to allow the goods carriage of the complainant to cross the check-post. The ACB official claimed that the complainant had reported the matter to senior officials of ACB after which the Amravati ACB unit was directed to lay the trap. The ACB officials successfully laid the trap and caught MVI Shejwal and two others engaged in accepting bribes at the check-post.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the rampant corruption in the RTO, and the need for stricter measures to curb such activities. It is also a matter of concern that the husband-wife duo, both MVIs, were involved in such illegal activities. The ACB officials also said, a thorough investigation will be conducted and appropriate action will be taken against those involved in the case. The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and have been remanded in police custody for further questioning. The ACB had received multiple complaints against her, including a case of eligibility certificate fraud while working in Osmanabad, they added. According to ACB officials, Shejwal has also been accused of using biometrics of other employees to settle work and operate on holidays. Similar malpractices were reportedly committed by her during her posting at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Barshi.

In response to these allegations, the police have registered a case against Shejwal and a person from driving school management under various sections of cheating. Shejwal has also been found guilty in a departmental inquiry, which resulted in her pay hike being withheld. ACB officials have launched a thorough search of Shejwal’s posh flat near Chhatrapati Nagar and other places. Under the guidance of ACB SP Amravati Maruti Jagtap, Addl SPs Arun Sawant, Devidas Gheware, the arrest was made by DySP Shailesh Sapkal, Nilesh Pakhale, Atul Matte, Sachin Bhoyar, Mukesh Wakode, Manisha Rajurkar, PSIs Sudhakar Kokewar, Sanjay Kamble and others.
