DHARAMPETH Krida Mandal hoopsters walked away with twin titles in the Youth District Basketball Championship that concluded at Nutan Bharat Yuwak Sangh (NBYS) courts in Bajaj Nagar, on Monday.
DKM boys pipped NASA 68-66 in an edge of the seat thriller while girls beat Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana (SNG) 69-54.
DKM boys survived a late onslaught by NASA in a see-saw match with the quarter-wise scores reading 15-17, 21-15, 18-10, 14-22. Prathamesh Diwedi (24) led the charge for the winners and was well supported by Neil Dhargawe (14) and Shresth Chandak (12). For the runners-up, Shreyash Bhosale (26) came up with match high score while Naman Todkar contributed 12 points.
In a high-scoring girls final, DKM got the better of SNG 69-54. After a poor start, where DKM conceded ten-point lead in the first quarter, the girls bounced back to dominate all the remaining three quarters for a fine win. Meehira Dhote with 30 points was once again the main player. She was ably supported by Nandini Chandak (21) and Swanandi Nagmote (12). For SNG, Riddhi Borkar (20) and Samruddhi Kotriwar (12) played well.
RESULTS: Boys: DKM (Prathamesh Diwedi 24, Neil Dhargawe 14, Shresth Chandak 12) bt NASA (Shreyash Bhosale 26, Naman Todkar 12) 68-66 (15-17, 21-15, 18-10, 14-22). Girls: DKM (Meehira Dhote 30, N Chandak 21, S Nagmote 12) bt SNG (Riddhi Borkar 20, Samruddhi Kotriwar 12) 69-54 (11-21, 16-7, 21-13, 21-13).
