FY Engineering admission in State delayed putting students in a fix

 

 

Students aspiring to get admissions to technical education courses in Maharashtra are suffering as the process for the same has been delayed. According to highly placed sources, Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell is facing some software problem leading to admission process becoming a non-starter. The results of HSC were out on May 25, while the results of Class XII conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) were declared on May 12. The results of MHT CET required for admissions to State Engineering colleges too came on June 8. About 8 days ago, Maharashtra State CET Cell had announced the admission schedule, according to which admission process should have been started from June 15. Now it is June 20, but the website of Cell does not have any indication. The Cell did not bother to display any information on for the students as why the admissions were getting delayed.

 

According to sources, the admission process came to a standstill because of technical glitch, which is not being revealed by the authorities. Every year every state has to provide the list of new colleges, and new courses whose Extension of Approval (EOA) and Letter of Approval (LOA) are received, to All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). This year AICTE fixed June 30 as the date for submission of list of colleges and courses.

 

After the finalisation of the list the status of affiliation to colleges by the respective universities is decided, then only admission process can be started. Authorities citing the reason of the non-completion of process of EOA and LOA for the delay in admission process. According to experts, the process of affiliation of colleges has nothing to do with starting of registration. CET Cell should start the process of registration and verification of documents immediately. The process of admissions to MBA, B.Ed, LLB (3 years) courses too has not started yet.
