IN A major breakthrough, City Police cracked a consignment hijacking case by arresting four members of an inter-state gang from Gujarat and recovered stolen 685 Lenovo laptops, monitors and accessories collectively worth over Rs 6.08 crore from them. Cops also seized three cellphones, a container truck, Maruti Swift Dzire car and other material worth over Rs 2.99 crore from their possession. The accused have been identified as Harish Hazar Khan (27), Mohammad Mustafa Dhanna Khan (24), Asif Masood Khan (27), all residents of Haryana, and Saheez Shafi Mohammad Khan (24), a resident of Valsad, Gujarat. Speaking to mediapersons, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sunil Patil informed that Amarnath Govind Sangram, a resident of Bengaluru, Karnataka, who owns Logistic Express Transport Company, lodged a complaint that he had sent a container truck (KA-53/AA-4233) laden with a consignment of 685 laptops, garments and electronic goods collectively worth over Rs 7.43 crore to Delhi on May 26.
However, the container truck did not reach Delhi. On May 29, the GPS fitted on the vehicle showed its location in Pardi area. The cellphones of the truck driver and cleaner were switched off. Sangram came to Nagpur and checked the vehicle. The seal of the container was broken.
When he checked the container, 685 laptops and other goods were stolen. Following Sangram’s complaint, Pardi Police registered a case under Section 406 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code on June 1. As per the instructions of Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police Aswati Dorje and Additional Commissioner (Crime) Sunil Patil, DCP (Detection) Mumakka Sudarshan constituted a joint team comprising PSI Anil Ingole (Anti-Vehicle Theft Squad), PSI Balaram Zadokar (Cyber Unit), PSI Deepak Thakre (Unit-I), constabulary staff Deepak Rithe, Vikas Kokate, Santosh Gupta, Pankaj Hedau, Kapil Tandekar, Rahul Kusrame, Baban Raut, Sushant Solanki, Sonu Bhawre, Ritesh Tumdam, Chandrashekhar Raghorte, Ananta Kshirsagar, Purshottam Naik, Mithun Naik and Parag Dhok, to detect the crime.
The team checked the footage of the CCTV cameras and collected technical information about the accused and traced them at Bardoli in district Surat, Gujarat. The team, with the assistance of SP (Bardoli) Hitesh Joy, Local Crime Branch and Bardoli Police, nabbed the accused quartet and recovered the stolen laptops, accessories, and vehicles.
Possibility of involvement of the accused in other similar crimes cannot be ruled out.
