The process of Laxminarayan Institute of Technology (LIT) getting status of Unitary Public University (UPU) has gained momentum. On Monday, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with LIT. Now LIT will be known as Laxminarayan Innovation Technological University (LITU). Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education (HTE) Department had asked RTMNU to separate LIT from it. The Department has also sought to know the information of the buildings, land, employees, corpus fund of RTMNU in the premises of LIT. Accordingly, RTMNU has submitted the information to the Department. It has also submitted the draft of the bill needed for the conversion of LIT into university. Before the bill becomes the act, the issues regarding the transfer of properties should get cleared. Considering all these aspects, the Department had asked RTMNU and LIT to sign a MoU.

Dr Raju Mankar, Director of LIT and Dr Raju Hiwase, Registrar of RTMNU have signed the MoU. LIT, which is a conducted college of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU), recently attained the status of Unitary Public University. With Unitary Public University status, LIT needs its own campus vacant where it can start other courses. At present, RTMNU has its examination section and some other establishments in the premises of LIT.
The Higher and Technical Education Department, in its letter sent to Registrar of RTMNU, had given reference of the
letter by Director of LIT and the report submitted by Dr G D Yadava.

Accordingly, RTMNU will vacate the LIT campus. The Department has made it clear that RTMNU should submit the proposal for new building where it can set-up its existing establishments. The teaching and non-teaching posts too are to be transfered to LIT by RTMNU. LIT, with National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) A+, National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and recent receipt of autonomous status by University Grants Commission (UGC); will be working as University.
