Nurses with Nursing Officer Assn at NBCBMCH, GSGDH continue strike

The nurses associated with Nursing Officer Association and posted at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College Hospital (NBCBMCH) and Government Seth Govinddas District Hospital (GSGDH) (Victoria) continued with their strike on Tuesday as well. They staged dharna protest at the campus of both the hospitals. Absence of nursing staff at the departments, affected the healthcare activities in both the major hospitals. The striking nurses claimed that the ongoing strike has paralysed the health activities in the hospitals as the patients had to run from pillar to post to receive medicine, injection, drips and other services. They said that their strike will continue till all their demands are fulfilled by the Government.

The nurses posted at the District Hospital took out a rally and expressed their anger by chanting slogans against the State Government. Their major demands included timely promotion and incentive for night shift like the doctors receive. However, NSCBMCH Dean Dr Gita Guin denied any intense impact of strike on the healthcare activities in the hospital. She assured that the patients would not let to face the brunt of ongoing strike as only a small section of nursing staff was on strike whereas majority of the nurses are still continued with their jobs.
