The incomplete beautification work of Thagada Dam built by Durg Municipal Corporation (DMC) is proving life threat for the residents. With the onset of monsoon the pits in the under construction site of the dam is filled with water, in which children are bathing and playing inviting accidents and not denying the possibility of untoward incident in future. Presently, the work has stopped due to rain. It may be noted that DMC is beautifying the 70-year-old Thagada dam and developing it as a picnic spot. According to the tender, all the work proposed under beautification should be completed by July 2021. But till date the work is incomplete and the situation is not clear till when it will be completed. Former Alderman of DMC Dr Prateek Umre has demanded Collector Pushpendra Meena to take cognizance of the careless functioning of DMC.

Umre alleged that DMC is completely involved in corruption thereby putting the life of the people in danger. He said that it has been four years but due to the corruption going on in DMC, Thugada dam could not take the form of a tourist destination till now. Due to delay, the cost of the project is increasing continuously and the project of 14 crores has reached to 16.27 crores. The contracting agency was first given one year’s time by the DMC to complete the construction of Thagada dam after that it was extended thrice. Still, the construction work is incomplete and lives are at risk. Five commissioners were changed and show-cause notices were also issued to four officers in charge of this work of DMC. After that they were also changed but the result was still a cipher. Dr Prateek Umre has urged Collector Pushpendra Meena to complete the beautification work of Thagada Dam at Durg expeditiously and if the work cannot be completed due to paucity of funds, proper security arrangements should be made so that no accident happens in future.
