A 16-year-old girl was crushed to death after a recklessly-driven tanker knocked the two-wheeler which she was riding pillion from behind. The accident took place at Ravi Nagar on Tuesday evening. The incident has sparked outrage among residents of the area. The deceased was identified as Sanskriti Sachin Mishra (16), a resident of Jagdish Nagar Friends Colony, Jagdish Nagar. She was a student of a coaching centre in Dharampeth. According to police, on Tuesday evening at 5.30 pm Sanskriti was riding pillion on a two-wheeler (MH-31/FV-7557) with her friend Yash Mishra. They were on their way back home from a tuition class. As they approached Ravi Nagar Square, a speeding tanker knocked their vehicle from behind. The impact caused Yash to fall towards the road divider while Sanskriti, who was riding pillion, fell on the opposite side and was caught under the rear wheels of the tanker. The driver of the tanker fled the scene after the incident, police said.
Passers-by alerted the police, and Ambazari police arrived to investigate the incident. The body of Sanskruti was taken to the hospital for a postmortem. Local residents expressed concern over the ongoing construction work of a fly-over on Amravati Road, which has narrowed the road and increased the risks of accidents. They accused heavy vehicle drivers of speeding despite the limited space, making the roads hazardous for other commuters. The police have registered a case against the unidentified tanker driver under the provisions of Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicle Act.
