IN AN attempt to bring more traders under its umbrella, the Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce (NVCC) has extended the last date for renewal of memberships till July 31. The National Company Law T r i b u n a l - a p p o i n t e d Administrator U C Nahta took the decision in this regard at the recently held third meeting of the NVCC New Membership Scrutiny Committee. It is important to note that many members of the traders’ body were shying away from renewal of their membership for the past few years.

The NVCC New Membership Scrutiny Committee members including Gopal Soni, Nilesh Suchak, Hemant Gandhi and Manubhai Soni urged the Administrator to extend the last date saying that traders - old as well as new ones are showing interest in the body and thus the date should be further extended. The NVCC had launched the special membership renewal drive for the period of three months between April and June. The drive concluded on June 30 but there was no satisfactory growth in the membership. However, a press release issued by the chamber claimed that more than 400 old members have renewed their membership by paying the annual charges while more than 100 new traders and businessmen joined the largest and then oldest body of the region.

The new traders, exporters, businessmen and firms may apply for the membership of the body. In addition to this, members whose membershiphad lapsed, mayalso pay the outstanding duesand renew it.The renewalcharges are Rs312 (plus 18%GST) per year. It is important to note thatmany existingmembers had alleged the former President of NVCC AshwinMehadia of denying them theopportunity to renew theirmembership. There were alsoallegations that Mehadia hadrenewed membership of onlythose who favoured him.Besides, there were many other allegations against Mehadiafollowing which the NationalCompany LawTribunal (NCLT)had dissolved the executivebody of NVCC and appointedan administrator.
