UNICORN Smash Masters
recorded a narrow 8-6 win
over Oryan Net Ninjas on
opening day of Shivray Group’s
Ultimate Badminton League
that got under way at
Subhedar Hall on Saturday.
The event is being held under
the auspices of Nagpur District
Badminton Association. As
many as 110 players are taking
part in the 10-team event consisting of 11 players each
including one female player.
In the RR5, Mukesh Motwani
edged past Swayam Yenkar in
a thrilling encounter by a solitary point (30-29) to take the
game into decider which his
team Unicorn won. Before this
sixth of the seven matches,
Unicorn had lot three and won
two. Motwani helped the teak
level scores.
In the final match between
the sides, that was the fourth
men’s doubles match, Oryan’s
Ravindra Mahari Gajbhiye and
Yogesh Barde lost to the pair
of Mann Jaunjalkar-Shreyas
Nisal 17-30.
Another close match was the
mixed doubles tie. Akshay
Pachpor and Rinkey Gupta of
Oryan managed to beat Sarang
Kulkarni and Nandini Chandak
30-28 of Unicorn for a 2-0 lead.
Both semi-finals and final of
the two-day ten-team event
will be played on Sunday.
