RAIPUR,
Prominent education leaders from various esteemed institutions in India came together to shed light on the comprehensive and transformative National Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020). They emphasised how NEP-2020 envisions a new education system for the country and aims to revolutionise learning by 2030. The NEP-2020 proposes a 5+3+3+4 pattern, dividing a student’s school education into four stages. It aims to provide a more learner-centric, flexible, and enjoyable educational experience at all levels. The policy advocates for experiential and multidisciplinary learning, fostering rationality, compassion, empathy, and scientific temper among students. Addressing a press conference, Deputy Commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan Vinod Kumar highlighted that the NEP-2020’s goal is to prepare students for an ‘Atma-nirbhar Bharat’ by equipping them to meet 21st century challenges.

Dr N V Ramana Rao, Director of NIT Raipur, emphasised the NEP’s focus on equitable and inclusive education, with an emphasis on regional languages in schools and inclusivity through digital learning. The policy also seeks to bridge the gap between education and employability by integrating skill development. IIT Bhilai Director Professor Rajiv Prakash mentioned how his institution has already taken steps towards implementing the NEP. They encourage multidisciplinary learning and offer a wide variety of liberal arts courses in addition to core departmental and science courses. Professor Kamal Jain, In-charge Director of IIM Raipur, emphasised the shift towards student-centric education, recognising and fostering the unique capabilities of each student. Rajnish Kumar Jha from the Regional Directorate of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (RDSDE) Raipur highlighted the importance given to skill development in the NEP.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has introduced revised Employability Skills (ES) curriculum to make trainees more industry-ready. The NEP-2020 envisions the establishment of the Higher Education Commission of India (NECI), which will regulate, fund, standardise, and accredit higher education with a ‘light but tight’ approach. With the active involvement of educational institutions like Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, NIT Raipur, IIT Bhilai, and IIM Raipur, the NEP-2020’s transformative vision is set to shape the future of education in India, paving the way for a skilled, adaptable, and empowered generation by 2030.
