Panic prevailed in Tendukheda block area when a reservoir breached on Tuesday morning. Due to this, Pondi and Jetgarh villages were completely submerged in water. The water level reached to roof top of houses in both the villages. As a result of this sudden rise in water level, the crops in the fields of both the villages are completely destroyed. Fortunately, villagers of both the villages were evacuated of Monday night itself when cracks were noticed in the reservoir. Collector Mayank Agagrwal had ordered for immediate evacuation of villagers so as to save lives.
Notably, the reservoir is situated 55 km away from the district headquarters. Villagers, on Monday, saw water seepage from the edge of the reservoir. They soon informed officers about it.
Tehsildar Monika Waghmare asked the Irrigation Department officers to reach to the spot. The teams of Irrigation Department and police tried to seal the portion of the reservoir from where water was oozing out. But they were not successful. Irrigation Department team expressed possibility of cracks going wider and more water outflow. The situation was informed to the Collector, Damoh who immediately directed for evacuation of villagers. MLA Dharmendra Singh Lodhi confirmed that timely evacuation of villagers was done by local administration. He had talked to Damoh Collector who assured for survey and then sanctioning of compensation to villagers.
The Collector informed that food is being arranged for the villagers. Till the situation turns normal, food would be supplied to villagers. Dry ration and clothes are also being provided to villagers as their entire belongings were left behind in the their houses, which are now submerged. It must mentioned here that the reservoir was constructed 30 years ago and water of this reservoir is supplied to many villages through canals. Police, administration and SDRF team are present at the spot to control the situation.
