NAGPUR’S Vedika Pal finished as second best in the Maharashtra State Under-11 Open and Girls FIDE Rating Chess Tournament that concluded at Shree Ganesh Sabhagruha and Ashwamedh Hall, Karve Road, Pune on Sunday. The event was being conducted by Pune District Chess Circle.
Playing on second board with white pieces, Vedika defeated Anwitaa Thakar of Mumbai Sub-Urban to end the tourney with 7.5 points. She was second only to Mysha Perwez of Mumbai Sub who collected 8.5 points to win the tittle. Other city girls Divyanshi Khandelwal (7) and Anvi Hirde (6.5), who won their last round matches, did well in the nine-round tournament. Overnight sole leader in the boys group, Nagpur’s Sahejveer Singh Maras, however, disappointed. Sahejveer lost his last round match to end the tourney with seven points. Nagpur’s Shaunak Badole also ended with seven points.
