State hands over unified control of buffer area of Bor to BTR

In the wake of rising tiger population in Vidarbha, the Government of Maharashtra has decided to hand over the administrative (unified) control of buffer area of Bor to the Bor Tiger Reserve (BTR). Notifying the buffer zone around tiger reserves is mandatory under the Tiger Conservation Plan (TCP) after amendments to the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, on September 4, 2006. After the Management Effectiveness Evaluation of Bor which took place in 2018 and in 2022, the State Government suggested handing over the unified control of the reserve to the Bor Tiger Reserve administration.
  
The 678.14 sqkm buffer area and 138.12 sqkm of core area of Bor will now under the control of Bor management.
So far, the control of 226.15 sqkm buffer area of Bor Tiger Reserve came under the jurisdiction of Nagpur Territorial Forest Division and 451.99 sqkm buffer area was under the control of Wardha Territorial Forest Division. After this government decision, the management of 678.14 sqkm buffer area now comes under the control of Bor Tiger Reserve.
Field Director, Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR) will also be the administrative head of Bor Tiger Reserve (BTR). The Deputy Director of BTR will look after the administrative work of buffer area who will have his office in Wardha.
The Deputy Director, BTR will have the control of total 816.26 sqkm buffer area which includes Bor Dharan, New Bor, Kavdas (Buffer), Hingni (Buffer), Bangdapur (Buffer) Forest Ranges.
 
After transferring 88.43 sqkm area of Nagpur Forest Division to the BTR, the Forest Department has restructured 1,271.32 sqkm area Nagpur Forest Division. After excluding BTR, the Nagpur Forest Division have Narkhed (116.83 sqkm), Katol (95.09 sqkm), Kondhali (130.07 sqkm), Hingna (106.69 sqkm), North Umred (267.96 sqkm), South Umred (127.66 sqkm), Seminary Hills (9.30 sqkm), Kalmeshwar (49.05 sqkm), Khapa (58.85 sqkm), Deolapar (104.66 sqkm), Paoni (116.29 sqkm), Ramtek (88.19 sqkm), and Kamptee (0.68 sqkm).
