In two different incidents, police used cane-charge on members of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) who reached Jabalpur Collectorate and Rani Durgavati University to stage gherao with their 5-point demands on Thursday.
Police firstly tried to stop them from entering the premises of both Collectorate and University, but when the NSUI members remained adamant on staging gherao, police used cane-charge to disperse the crowd.

NSUI workers were protesting against New Education Policy, Patwari Scam, irregularities in Vyapam examination, Agriculture exam, Junior Engineer Recruitment Exam and other recruitment process in which hefty amounts are being demanded to select candidates. According to NSUI leaders, Madhya Pradesh enlisted second in the country in terms of unemployment, but the State Government is engaged in recovering money from ineligible candidates in exchange of their appointment and kept eligible ones on waiting. Hundreds of NSUI workers under the leadership of State President, Ashutosh Chouksey, former State Vice-president, Saurabh Gautam and District President, Sachin Rajak assembled at Civic Centre and reached the Collectorate.

They carried out a massive rally chanting slogans against Shivraj Government, when reached close to the Collectorate, police tried to stop them by installing barricades. But NSUI members removed barricades to go ahead, following which police harshly used cane charge on them. As a result, NSUI State President, Chouksey and District President, Rajak became critically injured and were admitted in ICU at a private hospital for treatment.  Simultaneously, Karan Tamveshwar, Mohammed Ali, Abhishek Patel, Ajan Quraishi, National Secretary, Pinku Mudgal and other students were also injured. Many of them were arrested by the police. Criticising the lathicharge, MLA Vinay Saxena mentioned that not only the NSUI workers were physically injured in the lathicharge but it equally affected the morale of every youth in the state. Former State Vice-president, Gautam announced to stage gherao at SP Office on Friday for suspension of guilty policemen.
