Ritika, Simran are West Zone champs

AFTER helping Maharashtra clinch the team title in the women’ team event, Ritika Thaker and Simran Singhi continued with their splendid form in the individual event of the West Zone Championships held at Indore. Ritika and Simran started as favourites in the individual event and were top seeds in the women’s doubles. In the summit clash, Ritika and Simran were up against second seeded pair of Aishwarya Mehta and Priyanka Pant. Ritika and Simran won the first game with ease at 21-7. This perhaps made them put their guard down and the opponents made full use of that by clinching the second game closely at 19-21. The top seeds then got their acts together in the decider and played their best to claim the third game 21-5 and clinch the title.

Earlier in the semi-final, Ritika and Simran beat Yasmin Sayeed and Lydia Barretto in straight games 21-18, 21-8. It may also be mentioned that Ritika and Simran have clinched the West Zone title for the last five years. Ritika and Simran, who train at Suchitra Academy, Hyderabad, have thanked their coaches, Arun Lakhani, Mangesh Kashikar, MBA and NDBA for their support.
