THE duo of Rai Club, Irshad Ahmed and Deepti Bathone, emerged singles champions in the Vidarbha-level Carrom Competition organised by Vidarbha Carrom Association and Rai Sports and Social Organisation that concluded at MLA Hostel, Civil Lines on Sunday.
Irshad scored a comfortable 25-12, 25-12 win over Gurucharan Tambe of
Om Krida Mandal in the men’s singles final.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Irshad defeated Nav Yuwak Club’s Abhilash Dhoke 25-0, 25-5 while Gurucharan got the better of Janta Club’s Nikhil Lokhande 24-10, 25-0.
In the women’s category, Deepti outwitted Om Krida Mandal’s Sakshi Kanchhawe 25-10, 25-1 to lift the title. In the last-four game, Deepti had beaten Janta Club’s Pushplata Hedaoo 25-11, 25-0.
Prizes were distributed at the hands of BJP Maharashtra Pradesh Vice-President Sanjay Bhende, former MLC Girish Vyas, BJP South President Deaven Dasture and Umesh Mahonte.
On the occasion, The Hitavada’s Paritosh Pramanik and Lokmat Times’ Nilesh Deshpande were honoured for being elected to national sports body — Sports Journalists’ Federation of India (SJFI).
