Major General Ian Cardozo, AVSM SM (Retd.) while addressing a session organised here by the Vidarbha Management Association (VMA) on Sunday said the Indian Army symbolizes the ideals of dedication, patriotism and sacrifice. “If you wish to contribute to the progress of the country, take lessons from the Indian Army,” he said. Cardozo also said that entrepreneurs can learn leadership qualities from the Indian Army, which is known for achieving maximum output from the limited available resources,” added the war veteran. He was interacting with the participants at the special inspirational talk organised by VMA in association with Rotary Club of Nagpur Vision and Ladakh Jammu Kashmir Study Centre. The topic of the session was “Unleashing Maximum Efficiency: A conversation with an inspirational war veteran and master of efficiency”.

 

Major General Cardozo, who led the Gorkha Regiment, is known as ‘Kartoos Sahab’ in the army. He amputated his injured leg with his own machete while protecting the lives of soldiers in the 1971 war. He is known as the first war-disabled officer of the Indian Army to command a battalion and a brigade. Cardozo further said one has to be quick enough to make decisions. “If you adopt this formula in your life, you can overcome any crisis. Taking right action without expecting a reward is a sign of true leadership, courage, and adventure,” he highlighted.

 

“No matter how dire the situation is, focus on the mission. A leader in any field should have a clear role and should not let his confidence fall,” he said. Major General Ian Cardozo’s wife Priscilla Cardozo was also present on the occasion. During his interaction, Major General Cardozo shared his experiences of 1965, 1971 wars. ‘Gorkha’, a Hindi movie based on his valour will be releasing soon. Actor Akshay Kumar has played the role of Cardozo in the film. Earlier, moderator of the session CA Sagar Mitkari introduced Cardozo. Jayashree Chhabarani of Rotary Club of Nagpur Vision, was coordinator for the question and answer session and interacted

with Cardozo.
