Chandel responds to CM’s Delhi visit, response to corruption allegations

 

 

Leader of Opposition Narayan Chandel criticised Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s response to corruption allegations and his Delhi visit. Chandel suggested that Baghel’s visit was prompted by concerns over his political advisor’s alleged connection to the Mahadev app case. Chandel mocked Baghel’s communication with Congress leaders, implying that the Chief Minister was justifying his actions to the party higher-ups. Chandel went on to remark that Chhattisgarh has seemingly become a financial resource for fulfilling the demands of the Congress party leadership. He questioned the outcomes of the CM’s tenure, claiming that aside from allegations of corruption, little progress has been made in the state over the past five years.

 

The Leader of Opposition accused Baghel of attempting to shield corruption by speaking out against investigative agencies, particularly the ED (Enforcement Directorate). Chandel raised suspicions about Baghel’s timing in defending those implicated in corruption cases, insinuating that this indicated a pattern of protecting the corrupt. He questioned whether the Congress party had granted a “license to loot” to the Baghel government, asserting that investigative agencies possess the capability to bring those involved in corruption to justice.

 

Chandel highlighted ongoing investigations by the ED, which have led to the exposure of corrupt practices and the identification of undisclosed funds. He emphasized that despite efforts to secure bail, those accused of corruption are facing legal consequences due to evidence provided by investigative agencies. Chandel concluded by suggesting that whenever instances of corruption are scrutinised, Baghel seems to emerge to downplay or counter such claims.
