Riya, Shadab clinch golds

 

 

 

CITY’S middle-distance runners Shadab Pathan and Riya Dohtare brought laurels by bagging gold medals in their respective disciplines in the Maharashtra State Senior Selection Trails held at Priyadarshini Synthetic Track, Nepean Road, Mumbai. The meet is being organised by Maharashtra Athletics Association.

 

Track Star Athletics Club’s Shadab emerged winner in the 5000m run completing the distance in 14 minutes 19.50 seconds. His colleague Saurabh Tiwari finished sixth. Pune’s Kisan Tadvi and Kandivali’s Pravin Khambal took the second and third spots respectively. In the women’s 1500 race, Riya of Track Star Athletics Club carved out a timing of four minutes and 30 seconds to pocket gold. Nagpur’s Bhavyashree Mahalle, representing Nav Maharashtra Krida Mandal ended sixth while another city runner Geetal Sonekar finished seventh. In the men’s section, Rajan Yadav was fifth.

 

Shadab, Riya, Saurabh and Rajan all train under international trainer Ravindra Tong and Umesh Naidu. Shadab and Riya were congratulated by Nagpur District Athletics Association Secretary Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, President Gurudeo Nagrale, Archana Kottewar, Dr Sanjay Chaudhary, Nagesh Sahare, Jitendra Ghordadekar, Dr Vibekanand Singh, Dr Aditya Soni, Ganesh Wani, Sayli Waghmare, Gaurav Mirase, Dr Brumnoz Ambatkar, Dr Brijmohan Rawat, Gaurav Chavan, Vinod Pachghare, Surendra Ugale, Umkant Sangole, Amit Thakur and other sports lovers.
