Architect Habeeb Khan is Chairperson of BoG of SPA, Delhi

The President of India has appointed noted Architect Habeeb Khan as the Chairperson of the Board of Governors (BoG) of School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), Delhi. This appointment is for a period of five years. Habeeb Khan had earlier worked as President of Council of Architecture (COA). The President of India is the Visitor of the Schools of Planning and Architecture (SPAs) in terms of the provision contained under the School of Planning and Architecture Act, 2014. SPA, Delhi is the oldest school. The Chairperson is the top position with 13 members working under him. The Ministry of Education invites nominations from various apex bodies such as All India Council for Technical Education, COA, Indian Institute of Architecture, and Town Planning. The names are shortlisted as per their profile or resume and sent to the President, who then makes the appointment to the post of Chairperson.

SPA is supposed to chalk out the policies, recruitment process, education programmes of the Government institutes in the country. Habeeb Khan, an internationally acclaimed Architect is also the Director of Priyadarshini Institute Architecture Design and Studies (PIADS). He has vast experience in the field of architecture and planning. The Schools of Planning and Architecture (SPAs) are centrally funded technical institutes located across India. They are a group of autonomous public institutes of higher education under Ministry of Education, Government of India.

They were established with the objectives of providing quality Architecture and physical planning education. The SPAs primarily offer undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and executive education programmes. Each SPA is autonomous and exercises independent control over its day-to-day operations. However, administration of all SPAs and the overall strategy of SPAs is overseen by the SPA council. The SPA Council is headed by India's Minister of Education and consists of chairpersons and directors of all SPAs and senior officials from the Ministry.
