Due to Raksha Bandhan, Bhopal’s markets have witnessed a surge in women shoppers. There is a huge rush of customers at readymade garments, Rakhi, sweets and bullion shops. Due to this there has been an uptick in business.
Earlier, Chinese Rakhis used to be quite famous among the customers, but this year, the market situation is little different. This time there is more emphasis on ‘Swadeshi’ Rakhis. This is the reason why Rakhis have been brought from Ahmedabad, Surat, Delhi and Mumbai.
On Wednesday, due to Raksha Bandhan festival, people started shopping in the markets since morning. People came to do shopping in markets including New Market, Lakherapura, Sarafa, Chowk Bazar, Azad Market, 10 no Market, Bittan Market, Kolar, Avadhpuri etc. Maximum crowd was seen at Rakhi, cloth and sweet shops where women shopped a lot. The craze for getting henna applied on hands of women and girls was also seen in the New Market. Shopkeepers in New Market told that this time children are liking to buy Rakhis of Chandrayaan-3 and Modi in addition to Rakhis of cartoons. Modi Rakhi is in great demand. Thousands of different varieties of Rakhis have been brought. Cartoons and superheroes like Oggy, Tom and Jerry, Doraemon, Shinchan, Chhota Bheem, Superman, Pokemon, Shaktimaan appeared in the shops like every year.
This time also Rakhis have been ordered from Ahmedabad, Surat, Delhi and Mumbai. Apart from this, Rakhi has also been made in Bhopal, the cost of which is between Rs 10 to Rs 50. Chinese Rakhi is not being sold. The emphasis is on indigenous Rakhis only. There is an uptick in business for the second consecutive year. Due to Raksha Bandhan, cloth, coconut and sweets are also being sold.
