Lokayukta unearths assets worth Rs 10 crore from retd storekeeper’s premises

The teams of Special Police Establishment (SPE) of Lokayukta Bhopal on Tuesday raided multiple residences of retired storekeeper in Lateri and in Bhopal and unearthed assets with estimated value of over Rs 10 crore. The accused, Ashfaque Ali has retired from the district hospital in Rajgarh, said police. Police have found cash Rs 21 lakh and jewellery worth over Rs 45 lakh in the initial stage. The raid continued till evening. Police said that assets unearthed in the raid are highly disproportionate to the known sources of accused’s income. Police had received information about disproportionate assets of the accused in Bhopal and in Lateri.
 
The teams have found 16 properties owned by family members of the accused. Besides, the cops have found records that suggest the accused and his family own 50 properties in their names. The cops have found records of properties in name of wife, two sons and a daughter of the accused. The teams raided his home in Green Valley Colony of Bhopal and the other teams raided his premises in Lateri of Vidisha district. The cops found an under-construction shopping complex which is spread in an area of 14,000 square feet along with other buildings in Lateri.
 
Besides, the police have accessed documents of a spatial bungalow which is being built in an area of 2,500 square feet. The accused owns a three storey building at Lateri which is named Mushtaque Manzil. Police said a school is running there on rent. The 30 members were into two teams that carried out the raid in two separate areas. Police said that they reached his home in Green Valley Colony around 08:30 am. The family members were inside and they co-operated with the team. The cops opened every lock and found the cash which was then evaluated through a cash counting machine. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Santosh Shukla said that the raid started in the morning at his house in Bhopal’s Green Valley Colony. The total assets are estimated to be worth over Rs 10 crore, he said.
