THE Department of Physical Education and Sports of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University in collaboration with Nagpur District Athletics Association and SAI Khelo India University Centre organised javelin throw competition on the occasion of National Javelin Throw Day at its sports complex in Ravi Nagar. Vanshika Srivas, Tina Ratre, Chandrajit Gaikwad, Sita Madavi won the competition in various age groups. National Javelin Day is celebrated to commemorate the golden day when Neeraj Chopra won India’s first ever gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Sita Madavi of Akar Athletics Academy won the top position in women’s open category by throwing a distance of 22.78 metres. Chandrajit Gaikwad of Mahakal Fitness and Sports Academy won the top position in the Under-18 boys category with a throw of 21.82m. Bhupendra Markandey of the same academy got the second position with a distance of 20.85 metres. In the girls category, Tina Ratre of Mahakal Fitness and Sports Academy bagged the top position and Tejaswini Joshi bagged the second position. Tina recorded 14.22m and Tejaswini 10.17m throws. Vanshika Srivas of Mahakal Fitness and Sports Academy bagged the top position in the Under-12 girls category. Khushi Gumgaonkar got the second rank. Vanshika recorded 12.65 metres and Khushi 8.11 metres.
Director Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, Dr Sharda Naidu, Nagpur District Athletics Association President Gurudeo Nagarle, Dr Anil Bhore felicitated the players with medals. Senior Joint Secretary of District Athletics Association Ram Wani, Vinod Pachghare, athletics coach of SAI Khelo India Centre Sayali Waghmare, Dr Vibekananda Singh, Ganesh Wani and others worked hard for the success of the competition.
