A massive fire broke out at Blast Furnace-6 (BF-6) of Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) on the wee hours of Thursday. On receiving the information, three to four fire brigade vehicles were sent on the spot to extinguish the fire. It is being informed that due to capital repairs the Blast Furnace is shutdown for a week. At present, the exact cause of the fire has not been known. According to the information, capital repair work is to be done in the Blast Furnace, where the fire broke out. For this, the BF was kept in shutdown mode for the last one week. It is being told that the fire first started in the High Tension Room located next to the Blast Furnace.
The BSP control room was informed about the fire. BSP’s fire brigade team immediately reached the spot, but they could not douse the fire in time. Due to this the fire engulfed the Foreman Control Room also. While as per PRO BSP, smoke was reported at the Closed Blast Furnace No 6 of SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant at the early hours (4:45 am) of August 31. The Control Room and Fire Brigade were informed without any delay. Taking immediate action, the Fire Tenders surrounded the spot from all sides and began extinguishing the fire. The fire has been brought under control. The fire broke out in cables at the Cable Room and Control Room of Blast Furnace No 6. There was no loss of life or damage in this incident. The actual cause of the fire incident will be known after complete investigation.
