Man thrown off Sadar flyover asspeeding car knocks bike; 2 dead

IN YET another chilling reminder to the administrators in the city of their faulty planning, a ghastly mishap snuffed out two lives on the Sadar flyover on Monday evening. A speeding car knocked down the duo near the Y-Point on the flyover. One of the deceased was thrown off the flyover and crashed 70-80 feet on the road beneath. He was killed instantaneously while his companion succumbed to injuries later in the day. The deceased have been identified as Pawan Ishwar Zade (40), a resident of Garoba Maidan, Old Bagadganj, and Anuttar Ganpat Shambharkar (42), a resident of Plot No 86, Medical College Road, Untkhana Layout, Dahipura, Hanuman Nagar, Imambada. Cops took the accused car diver, Amol Arvind Gadwe (38), a resident of Plot No 49, Bhole Nagar, Hudkeshwar, into custody. Senior Inspector Sanjay Mendhe, In-Charge of Sadar Police Station, informed ‘The Hitavada’ that Zade and Shambharkar were going on a Splendor motorcycle ((MH-31/CE-6366) around 5.30 pm on Monday. Suddenly, a Maruti Ertiga car (MH-40/GM-7823) driven by Gadwe at a high speed allegedly tried to overtake another vehicle and hit the bike. The impact of the collision was such that Zade, who was riding the motorcycle was tossed into the air and landed on the road below the flyover. He was killed on the spot. Shambharkar was seriously injured.
Vehicular traffic on the flyover came to a grinding halt after the mishap. Traffic Police deployed near Kasturchand Park Metro Station and staff from Sadar Police rushed to the spot. With the assistance of passers-by, they rushed the victims to Mayo Hospital where Shambharkar, too, was declared dead by doctors. Both the mangled vehicles were towed to police station. Sadar Police arrested car driver Gadwe for dangerous driving and causing death due to negligence. Blood samples of the car driver were taken to check if he was driving under the influence of alcohol or any other intoxicant. The tragedy has once again raised several eyebrows about the Traffic Police’s planning as dance of deaths continues unabated on city flyovers.
In May this year, a young woman and her son riding pillion on a bike were killed hit a hit-n-run case on Sadar flyover. He mother-son due were tossed into air and fell on the road below near Chhaoni after being hit by a car. In September last year, four members of a family, including two children, were killed and five others injured, after being hit by a speeding SUV coming from the wrong side on Sakkardara flyover. Four people on motorcycles were tossed in the air and reportedly fell on the road at Sakkardara Square about 70-80 feet below the flyover. Similarly, in September last year, a woman riding pillion on her husband’s motorcycle was killed after a rashly-driven car hit her from behind on Gowari flyover in Sitabuldi area. Due to the impact of the collision, she, too, was thrown off the flyover and killed after landing on Wardha Road.
