Panic like situation prevailed at the Collectorate in Balaghat, when Lokayukta team from Jabalpur caught Chief Municipality Officer Shivprasad Dhurve red-handed accepting bribe of Rs 2 lakh, on Thursday. The news of Shivprasad’s arrest sent shockwaves among employees present at the Collectorate. Lokayukta officials informed that Sushil Singh Chandel, a 50-year-old resident of Ward Number 4, Shanti Nagar, Balaghat had met Shivprasad Dhurve, Chief Municipality Officer in Malanjkhand district of Balaghat to take a payment of Rs 39 lakh. In order to facilitate the payment, Dhurve had demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from Sushil Singh Chandel. He lodged a complaint regarding this matter with Superintendent of Police, Lokayukta, Jabalpur, Sanjay Sahu.
Following the complaint, on Thursday Lokayukta team comprising DSP Dilip Jharwade, Inspector S Das, Manju Tirki and five other members reached the Collectorate in Balaghat. No sooner CMO Shivprasad Dhurve accepted the bribe amount of Rs 2 lakh, Lokayukta team members caught him red-handed. Lokayukta has registered a case against Dhurve under relevant sections and is investigating further.
