CITY’S top doubles pair of Ritika Thaker and Simran Singhi stormed into quarter-finals of the Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open at the Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Continuing with their purple patch after a bronze medal at Maldives and gold at Lagos, the duo stormed into last-eight at the Super 100 level tournament. In the pre-quarters, Ritika-Simran were up against Malaysian pair of Lee Zhi Qing and Desiree Siow.
The Indians wrapped up the first game with perfect deception and attack with the score reading 21-10. They let their guards down in the second game and were trailing most part of the game. But got their acts together after the interval and won the close second game at 21-18. They next play Chinese Taipei pair of Jiang Yi Hua and Li Zi Qing for a place in the semis. Ritika-Simran are the only Indian players left in the tournament. They practice at Suchitra Academy in Hyderabad.
