G20 FWG meeting kicks off

 

 

 

The fourth and final meeting of the G20 Framework Working Group (FWG) under the Indian G20 Presidency began on Monday at the picturesque May Fair Lake Resort in Atal Nagar, Nava Raipur. The two-day meeting, which commenced at 10 am, was chaired by Chandni Raina, Adviser from the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, and Sam Beckett, Chief Economic Adviser from HM Treasury, UK. This significant gathering saw the participation of 65 delegates from G20 member countries, as well as invitee countries, along with representatives from various international and regional organisations. The meeting started with an introduction to Indian Presidency of G20, followed by presentations of views from representatives of other nations. One of the focal points of the meeting was a discussion on the global economic scenario, with delegates providing insights and discussing input-output matters. An open session was also held for all member countries to engage in constructive dialogue. During the second session, experts from the United States, Brazil, Canada, and South Africa delivered presentations on the global economic scenario. These presentations were followed by opportunities for member countries to ask questions, and Chandni Raina, presiding over the meeting, summarised the key points. In the third session, the focus shifted to the challenges of supply chain and its microeconomic aspects. Presentations were made by organisations such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OCAD), the International Labor Organisation (ILO), and the World Trade Organisation (WTO). Experts from China, South Korea, and Germany also shared valuable insights on this topic. Another open session allowed for further discussions.

 

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) experts took the stage in the following session, providing information about external factors affecting the global economic scenario. Member countries had the opportunity to engage in discussions, and experts from France, Japan, and Mexico made presentations under the chairmanship of Britain. On the agenda for Tuesday is a discussion on strong, sustainable, balanced, and inclusive development, with experts from countries including Argentina and Indonesia set to provide insights under Britain’s chairmanship. As part of making this historic G20 meeting even more memorable, G20 Vatika, a green space, was developed in Sector 24, Nava Raipur. On the first day of the G20 FWG meeting, 65 different delegates planted saplings in G20 Vatika, enhancing the environmental legacy of the event. The Vatika, covering 1.2 hectares, boasts an oval-shaped garden with attractive lighting, creating a beautiful ambiance.

 

It features seven types of plants, including Fox Tail, Molsari, Sita Ashok, Kachnar, African Tulip Tree, Pink Poi, and Tree of Gold. Additionally, the delegates had the opportunity to explore the cultural richness of Chhattisgarh by visiting Purkhouti Muktangan, where they immersed themselves in the state’s art and culture. The tribal lifestyle, traditional folk dance, folk art, Bastar Dussehra, and Amcho village left a profound impact on the delegates, who documented these experiences. Safety and logistical support were meticulously provided, and ‘Ratri Bhoj Par Samvad’ (Conversation over Dinner) was hosted at MayFair Lake Resort on Monday evening, offering the delegates a taste of Chhattisgarh’s unique cuisine and cultural heritage. The delegates’ itinerary for Tuesday includes a visit to the Jungle Safari, promising another enriching experience during their stay in Chhattisgarh.
