The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has come out with an ambitious plan of building a state-of-the-art textile complex in the heart of the city. The proposed complex will accommodate nearly 3,000 traders engaged only in the textile sector. It will be developed on a 4 acre land situated in front of Geeta Mandir.
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari MHADA made this announcement here on Friday while interacting with the traders and entrepreneurs in presence of Sanjeev Jaiswal, Vice President MHADA; Nagpur Municipal Commissioner Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari; District Collector Dr Vipin Itankar; Shivkumar Aade, Chief Engineer, MHADA; and Maheshkumar Meghmale, Chief Officer MHADA Nagpur Board.

Gadkari said the new facility would prove beneficial for the traders as well as customers. “It will also bring down traffic congestion at various markets in the city,” he said. On the occasion, MHADA officials gave a presentation on the proposed project and invited suggestions and objections from the traders, mainly those displaced by various road widening projects. The authorities, planning to accommodate big, medium and even small textile traders in the proposed facility, have come up with an idea of a multi-storey building with various world-class facilities such as elevators, public toilets, etc. Meghmale said the leading architectural design consultancy firm of the country - Architect Hafeez Contractor - has designed an eight-storey building excluding two ground floors dedicated for parking. Apart from this, renowned B G Shirke Group company will construct the new facility. The complex is expected to be over within two years.
