Eleven others sustain injuries n Our Correspondent
IN a heart-wrenching incident, two women labourers lost their lives, while eleven others including a man labourer
sustained injuries when a recklessly-driven truck collided with the tractor’s trolley they were travelling in, in an area under Saja Police Station limits in Bemetara district on Friday morning.
The critically injured
victims are currently
receiving medical treatment at Shankaracharya Hospital
in Bhilai.
These labourers were en route to Shikari Beejagod village for daily wage work when the tractor’s trolley they were on was struck from behind by a recklessly driven truck. The impact was so severe that it caused the tractor trolley to overturn, tragically killing two women labourers on the spot and leaving eleven others including a man labourer injured. Local residents
rushed to the scene and assisted in transporting the injured to the Saja Community
Health Centre.
Five of them received preliminary treatment and were soon released, while the six critically-injured were rushed to Shankaracharya Hospital in Bhilai. Eyewitnesses promptly reported the incident to the Saja police. Saja Station House Officer (SHO) Mukesh Yadav confirmed the incident and mentioned that the truck driver attempted to flee but was apprehended after a chase. An offense against the truck driver has been registered under Sections 337 and 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further investigation is currently underway.
SHO Yadav further disclosed that the accident occurred around 7:30 am on Friday. He stated that 12-15 labourers including a man labourer from Korwari village, under the jurisdiction of Gram Panchayat Pipariya, were traveling in a tractor (registration number: CG-07, D-4034) to Shikari Beejagod village for daily wage work. Meanwhile, a truck (registration number: CG-08, H-2435) travelling from Balaghat to Raipur collided with the tractor trolley from behind.
The impact was so severe that it caused the tractor to lose control and ultimately overturn, resulting in the tragic deaths of Gangotri Sahu (30), wife of Mukesh Sahu, and Saritabai (32), wife of Ramesh Sahu, on the spot.
Gangotri Sahu has left behind a daughter and a son, while Saritabai is survived by two daughters and a son.
According to the police, labourer Bharati Thakur (18), daughter of Ashok Thakur, sustained injuries on her right hand, waist, and other areas. Teejiya Bai Sahu (40), wife of Ramavatar Sahu, suffered serious injuries to her back, waist, and face. Kumari Oommen Thakur (21), daughter of Sonu Thakur, sustained injuries on her left hand, head, waist, and other areas. Poonam Yadav (19), daughter of Golu Yadav, has injuries on her neck, back, and waist. Meera Yadav (40), wife of Khelavan Yadav, sustained injuries on her hand and right leg. Parvati Gond (36), wife of Kamlesh Gond, has injuries on her left hand, head, and forehead.
Similarly, Praveen Sahu (38), wife of Dilharan, suffered injuries on her left shoulder, left leg, and near the right shoulder. Mukesh Sahu (37), son of Manglu Sahu, sustained an injury on his left thigh. Rambai (36), wife of Ashok Gond, has injuries on her left hand and face. Champa (26), wife of Ram Prasad, suffered injuries on her right hand, back, and right leg.
Additionally, Rohini, Omin, Purnima, Teejia, and Bharti Thakur were seriously injured and, after receiving initial treatment at the Saja Community Health Center, were referred to Shankaracharya Bhilai Hospital for further treatment. The condition of these patients is reported to be serious.
