THE duo of Anant Deshmukh and Sanvi Mahajan returned with medals from the REC Open Northern Talent Hunt National-Level Boxing Championship that concluded at Sai NCoE, Rohtak, Haryana. In the sub-junior boys final, Bhilgaon’s Anant was pitted against Jharkhand’s Somlal Murmu. Anant dominated the 58-61kg bout that was played for three rounds emerging a 5-0 victor to clinch gold.

 

Sanvi also did well in the tournament but lost her semi-final match to Haryana’s Rakhi and had to settle for a bronze.

Both Anant and Sanvi train regularly under the able guidance of reputed NIS boxing coach Ganesh Purohit at Divisional Indoor Stadium in Mankapur. Other players who represented Maharashtra in the meet include — Malhar Sable, Dhairya Kothi, Samiksha Singh, Navya Naveli and Mayuresh Jadhav. Nirmal Sharma accompanied the contingent as coach while Raunak Khambalkar and Alfiya Pathan were managers.
