Malvika helps SRM win title

AMONG India’s top singles players, Nagpur’s Malvika Bansod helped SRM University, Chennai emerge champions in the AIU South Zone Inter-University Women’s Badminton Championship that concluded in Belagavi on Friday.
The meet was hosted by Visvesvaraya Technological University. A Computer Science Engineering final year student, Malvika won all her singles to guide SRM University to title. In the final against Jain University, Bungler, Malvika thumped Deetya 21-2, 21-6 without breaking a sweat.
 
On her way to the final, Malvika defeated Praveena Mary of University of Madras 21-8, 21-9 in the semis. In the quarters, Malvika recorded a comfortable 21-10, 21-10 win over player from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam.
“I am glad I could contribute in victory. Now, we have won the South Zone title for two years in a row. “That we won all the ties 2-0, reflect quality of our team,” a happy Malvika said after the triumph.
