Over 600 students boycotted the combined Common Entrance Test (CET) being conducted for the eligibility of PhD Fellowship awarded by BARTI, SARATHI and MAHAJYOTI on Wednesday. The students alleged that the examination paper was leaked and demanded to conduct examination again. The students at Kamla Nehru College, Sakkardara which was a centre of examination, reached the office of Social Justice Department to agitate. The examination was conducted by Savitribai Phule Pune University. The students who came from the cities of Akola, Amravati, Yavatmal, Gondia, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur for the examination protested outside the examination center after noticing that the paper was leaked before the start of the examination. Since no one took any cognizance time, they went on a hunger strike in front of the office of the Social Justice Department.
Barti, Sarathi, Mahajyoti had organised various activities for the students. However, there were frequent agitations by the beneficiary students of various institutions. Therefore, the Government decided to fix the same policy for all institutions. After that, the students protested across the state for the general scholarship. The government did not accept this demand and decided to give 200 students each to the three institutes namely Barti, Sarathi and Mahajyoti. Accordingly, Pune University was given the responsibility to conduct CET for these three institutes.
The examination centers were allotted at Pune, Mumbai, Sambhajinagar and Kolhapur. The students from Akola, Amravati, Yavatmal, Gondia, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur came to write the examination at the center located at Kamla Nehru College, Nagpur. Many students had traveled overnight on Tuesday. However, as soon as the examination started at 10 am on Wednesday, the students found out that the paper was leaked. The students started agitating in the centre premises. As a precautionary measure, police force was called. The students then staged a day-long protest in front of the Social Justice Department building where Mahajyoti and BARTI have their offices. Finally, the authorities assured students of positive decision to be taken on Thursday and the students withdrew their protest.
