JMC meet: Opposition creates ruckus

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporators created ruckus for unwarranted delay in commencement of development works in concerned wards during general house meeting of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation, held at Pt Bhawani Prasad Tiwari auditorium, on Thursday. They demanded the Chair that time should be ascertained for start of works. Considering Opposition members demand, Chairperson Rinku Vij directed to start development works worth Rs 60,000 and Rs 75,000 through corporators’ head in old and new wards respectively. After State Assembly elections, the meeting was held for the first time and Opposition strongly criticized the ruling party over development works. Accusations and counter-accusations continued for a long time. Opposition members demanded the chair that decision should be made regarding tentative time for start of development works before discussing other topics in the meeting. They warned that if a date of commencement and deadline is not set for development work, the entire opposition will stage a protest in the well of the House.

 

The opposition BJP Corporators also stressed the need for timely initiation of the works assigned to Corporators’ funds. Backing the demand, Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh said development work should be carried out in the wards. He said the Chair must give clear instructions for development works. He also proposed that the Chairperson, Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner should hold a joint meeting to discuss these issues. The Mayor also said that development work should not be limited to only the Rs 30 lakh allocated for Corporators. Other approved development works should also take place. There was also a debate in the meeting regarding development works under the Mukhya Mantri Adhosanrachna Yojana.

 

The opposition members also raised allegations regarding payments in the Municipal Corporation. They claimed that payments were made only after summoning people to the bungalow (Mayor’s official residence). Many people have not received their payments for the past two years. MLA Neeraj Singh also attended the general meeting. He was welcomed in the House. The House was also echoed with the slogans of Shri Rama. The Opposition members also extended greetings to Chief Minister, Dr. Mohan Yadav. At the outset, House members paid tributes for the peace and solace of those departed recently. A two minutes silence was observed and thereafter House proceedings started.
